How to Plan a Group Trip Without the Group Chat Chaos

Group trips usually stall on the order of decisions, not the decisions themselves. Decide the right things first, one question at a time, and the rest falls into place. Settle (settle.ink) is a group decision app: create a poll, share one link, and people vote in their browser with no app or account. It handles the votes; use whatever itinerary or booking tools you like for the rest.

Decide in this order

Each decision narrows the next one. Skip ahead and you end up debating flights for a destination half the group cannot afford.

  1. Budget range. Agree a ceiling before anything else.
  2. Dates. Offer two to four date windows and find the one most people can make.
  3. Destination. Shortlist places that fit the budget and the dates.
  4. Where to stay. Two to six options with photos.
  5. What to do. Leave this until last; it is the easiest to change.

One question per vote

A single poll that asks about dates, places and budget at once gets confusing answers. Run each decision as its own short vote with its own cut-off, and announce the result before you start the next one.

Keep each list to two to six options. If you have more, the organizer shortlists first.

Use Maybe, not silence

Ask people to answer every option with Yes, Maybe or No. A Maybe on a date window means someone could make it work; a No means they cannot. That difference matters more on trips than anywhere else, because one person's hard No can sink the whole booking later.

Set a deadline for every decision

Prices move while groups deliberate. Give each vote a clear cut-off, like 24 hours, and book the winner when it closes. In Settle, the organizer picks the deadline when creating the poll, the top pick wins when it passes, and one tap sends a reminder to the group chat for anyone who has not voted.

Running it in Settle

Create a poll for each decision with two to six text or photo options; photos work well for places to stay. Share one link in the trip chat, and friends vote in their browser with no app or account. Each poll takes up to 10 voters, which suits most friend trips.

When a vote settles, Settle makes a settled card to send back to the chat, so the decision is clear and in one place. Add the dates and place to turn it into a plan, and friends confirm they are in from the same link. See how the Settle app works.

Questions

What should a group decide first when planning a trip?

Budget, then dates, then destination, then where to stay, then activities. Each decision narrows the next one and avoids debating options some people cannot afford or make.

Is Settle a trip planner?

No. Settle handles the group votes: dates, destination, stays and plans. Use your usual itinerary and booking tools for the rest.

How many people can vote?

Up to 10 voters per poll. Friends vote in any browser, with no app or account.
